Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan
Last summer, for the eighth I read Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. I was really excited to read this book because I absolutely love animals! But as I read on, I realized this book wasn't about the furry animals I adored. It was about slaughterhouses and the gruesome tale behind the closed doors of the meat industry. It was hard to read and examine the pictures, that told a heartwrenching tale about the pain these animals endured. This book helped me to realize my meat had to come from somewhere, and not just the supermarket! I was surprised I could even finish the book with all the sadness that had come along with it. Once I had finished this book it was hard for me to eat meat. I was determined to try to stop the selling of meat! But it was hard, there are millions of people in the world who eat meat.I knew it was going to be hard for a 10 year old girl to fight the slaughterhouses! My mother and I donate to PETA. I am glad we donate! I know that if I hadn't read Omnivore's Dilemma, my love for animals would not have increased! Omnivore's Dilemma is not only about meat, it also talks about eating right, child obesity, and how much corn is consumed by the average American. All in which is important for every kid to learn about. I would recommend this book to readers who love non fiction! I love non fiction myself! That is why I was super enthusiastic to read this! I highly recommend this book to readers who don't mind gruesome text. Unfortunately I was not warned about the excellent, yet tragic text. They also have Omnivores dilemma for adults. If the book for kids is to easy I recommend you switch to the adult version. The adult version has smaller text, harder words, and very specific details!
