Steven matured because he shaved his head to show support towards his little brother's severe case of Leukemia. Jeffrey wasn't feeling well that night and Steven felt bad because he knew the kimo therapy was kicking in so to show his support, he shaved his head. The next morning he wore a baseball cap to breakfast and surprised Jeffrey.
Steven matured because he gave his favorite drumsticks to a girl who had cancer. She was not allowed out of the hospital, and he sister never visited. The next time Steven visited the hospital, the girl had passed. Steven showed his maturity, love, and kindness.
The final way Steven showed his maturity was by taking a stand and told the hottest girl in school that she couldn't come in because she was sick. Jeffrey can not be exposed to sickness because of his cancer and kimo. Steven showed he cared in this example.
All in all, Steven showed his maturity, love, and kindness towards his brother! I think this book is challenging towards your emotions and to the actual reader.
