The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis

Last year my class finished the Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis. This book is overpowering with emotion and the tone of the narrator is flawless. This book is about a 11 year old girl named Parvana, she lives with her family in one room of an apartment that has been bombed. Parvana's father was a history teacher until his school was bombed and his health was destroyed. One day Parvana's father is arrested for the crime of having a foreign language, and the family is left without someone who can work. In Parvana's country only men can work. Women must stay in hiding. Parvana must transform herself into a boy in order to earn the money her family needs to buy food.
